...waiting...

Waiting it out...

So it seems that the Hurricane is heading straight for us (though they are hoping that it will be a tropical storm by the time it comes here)...and as I write the school yard is silent on a Tuesday morning whereas usually it would be filled with children. Sigua is on a state of red-alert (I don't yet know what that means) but classes are cancelled today even though the storm will not hit here until 2am tomorrow morning. The weather is slightly more tempermental than normal, but otherwise it seems like just another day with slightly more clouds. It is kind of weird - we seem to be in a state of limbo right now - waiting to see just how bad it will be = both here and elswhere in Honduras. As we are at high elevation we are safer because we will not have to worry about water collecting in our houses (though I might need a bucket in my bedroom) and we should not have a huge problem with mud slides. However, this will probably affect our food and water supply so later on this morning we will be heading out to stock up on more water and possibly some candles. On that note, I am expecting to be without power for a few days...so if you don't hear from me...don't worry about it. You can always call (country code 504-773-0013) if you feel the need and it works.
I confess that I am kind of excited...but it comes with a feeling of dread for those who are not as well protected and who do not have the resources to stock up. Much of this country is poor and very rural so shelter and food are not as accessible nor as affordable. Please pray for the safety of these people as well as those being recruited to send aid. It certainly causes me to ponder on how blessed we are in Canada to not have to worry about earthquakes, tornadoes, or even hurricanes on a regular basis. I wonder what it does to your view of your possessions (house, car, etc.) if things can be so easily taken from you? Hmm...I do not know - what I do know is that even I have too many things that I need to hold on to with a looser fist...yet I find myself sometimes 'erring' on the side of not enjoying what God has blessed me with and knowing that it is okay to enjoy them.
So, I love you all- please keep me and Honduras (yes and entire country) in your prayers. God is our Father and He is in control of everything!
