So this weekend the youth group (called the Trabucos - meaning something about working for Christ) at our church went on a mission trip to a place about an hour away from Sigua. We built a house for a couple who was expecting a baby and worked with children in two different communities. We ran a type of VBS thing - skits, stories, songs, drama, puppets, and games.)
(pic 1: building the house - it looks posed but I promise it is not)
I think it was eye opening for both Hondurans and non-Hondurans (Katharine and I). We learned just how different our cultures are and we got the chance to ask each other questions like: How come Hondurans/Canadians/Brits... So we learned a lot about each other. Honestly, it was probably good for the removal (or challenging) of white stereotypes - being said that we can just go with the flow, don't need to sleep somewhere that doesn't have tarantulas and mice, and we can be flexible.

Really - I just learned that all people really are the same. We all come in different packages but we are driven by the same desires, have the same hurts and loves, the struggles, the same need for Christ, the same need for encouragement, the same need for relationship - whatever the language.
I am excited to get to know these people better.
