The Game...

We left Sigua at 4:30. The game started at 7:30. Everyone we talked to said that we should have left earlier but one person had an exam until 4. So we couldn't. Kike drove - which meant we would get there a whole lot faster than most people. (Like in 1:30 minutes and not 2 hours.) Plus our friends (Pic 1: Brian and Lidia ; Pic 2: Deb and Nicole (Nicole being the other Canadian)

After about 50 minutes of driving we noticed a smell eminating from the car. Not a good smell. Pulled over and checked everything. Seemed okay. Got on the road again and about two kilometers later the transmission went. The car was unmovable and would now need to be towed. Good. We couldnt just leave it there because when we returned all parts of the car in any fair condition would be gone - tires, mirrors, engine parts, etc. It was getting dark. By the grace of God a man pulled over and helped. (Kike said that in this country it is very rare for that to happend. God was taking car of us!) He drove back the gas station got a tow cable and came back and towed us. He offered us a ride in the direction of the stadium and since we still wanted to go the game we left the car at the station. And got in his truck.

Then a bus came along that was going to San Pedro - to the terminal which was REALLY near the stadium. On we got.

We got the terminal and took a taxi to the stadium. When we got there we had great seats thanks to the other four. We didn't have to wait in line - just walked in and met them and they took us to our seats. And so the game began! Yes I got my face painted like the flag and wore a shirt but really it killed me inside. Honestly though it was just not safe for me to cheer for Canada. There was only one flag that I saw hanging from a high box. Nobody else.

It was so much fun. (Pic 3: Top l-r: Jaime and Kike. Botoom l-r Zuko, me, Katharine) Yes. Canada did lose: 3-1. Not our best game ever. But the atmosphere was/is so fun. I definately want to go again. It did help that the guys really took care of us there.

Getting home was another problem. Were we going to stay? Kike had an exam at 8 the next morning. A problem. Well the guys met a guy who was going back to Sigua that night. We just need to sit in the back of a pickup for 2 hours. No problem. Yes it was a little cold. And people have warned us that it can be dangerous - but there were enough other people on the road that we had no problem other than a bit of rain.

We had a great time!

Sounds like quite the experience, 'manda. I'm sad we lost but I'm glad you're still in one piece, despite the adventure of Honduran transportation…good thing your national pride isn't stronger than your sensibility :P
