Compassion International...a passionate organization

Two days ago I had the priviledge of visiting one of the local projects run by the child-sponsership organization Compassion Internation. I have seen many commercials on TV for child-sponserships from different organizations. Living in a developing country where many people pocket money and take bribes - the honesty of a corporation is SOOO important.

The husband of one of my Spanish co-workers works for the organization and she volunteers at the school after she is finished at our job. Their passion for their work is so amazing and so touching. I hope that whatever job I end up doing with my life I end up with that kind of excitement for my job and the people I touch.

We visited the project after school - and we we received like we were royal guests. We literally got to see EVERYTHING. They even pulled out their accounting books and explained how everything is recorded and checked, and re-checked. We saw the nitty-gritty detailed, hands-on work of a child-sponsership organization - all from the classroom learning, to the snacks, to the card and letter translation, and we even got to see some pictures of sponsers and the letters they had sent their kids. We got to see how the money is recorded and kept track of for children's birthdays and Christmas - so carefully labelled and kept so that every lempira was accounted for and double-checked so that no one has put money in their own pocket. We saw the health forms, the education forms, the report cards, the family history - all of it painstakingly labelled and filed in multiple rows of filing cabinets.

And these people work so hard and have such a passion. In Sigua alone there are over 1000 children in this program - but many still need sponsers.

I wanted to write this post to let people know about this organization and the possibility of sponsering a child - and yes - it is possible to sponser a child here in Sigua if you want. This way when you come visit me (hint - hint) you can come and see your child. Just email me if you are interested.

Here is Compassion's Website:

You should consider at - this seems like a good organization.

sweet. i've heard of this organization before also. and i agree--it'd be pretty sweet to be that involved/excited/passionate about doing something with your life which helps others. (can't imagine being that excited about picking weeds...although i do get suuuuper angry when i see people litter!?)
