Holy Holidays...and other things

As you know - last week was Semana Santa (or Holy Week) and so we had a week off of vacation. Five friends and I took off for the keys and spent from Saturday to Thursday far away from Sigua. We all headed for Utila - but I was VERY excited because I was signed up to get my Open Water Diving Certification.

You know those dreams that you have when you are like 5 years old of being able to breath underwater? And being able to look up and see the surface far above you? And looking around and see all those colourful fish IN REAL LIFE - whereas previously you had only seen those kind of things in your dreams or in the movie "The Little Mermaid"? Well - I became the little mermaid. (A secret dream of mine - only I wore slightly more clothing;) It was the most amazing experience - being able to breath underwater. I thankfully didn't have any problems - even when I took my mask of underwater I didn't try to breath through my nose. At first I felt like a ditzy blonde - because it seemed that there was so much to learn. But after about dive 2 - you realize that practice makes perfect and things got much less overwhelming and a whole lot easier. If anyone has secret dreams of being underwater for long periods of time - come down here and get certified. (For underwater swimming - not sanity.)

The rest of the time (at night) the six of us (in the picture: Jorge, Katharine, Kristen, me, Noel, and Enoc) we hang out, ate, were silly, and in general had a grand old time. It was a much need vacation - away from responsibility, town, seriousness, and life in general.
