Oh the Joys of Working Technology...

So after a long wait and an agonizing decision of whether I should or shouldn't buy a new computer...I have finally got my new computer. Many thanks goes out to my family for all their work in hunting down what I wanted as well as setting up my computer. I also appreciated the inclusion of sermons and bible study audio from home. I am so blessed. To celebrate this momentous occasion I just want to share what I had forgotten that WORKING technology can do.

So long to the old computer - a trusted friend for 5 years of university life (sob) - but I never once had to get parts fixed or anything!

1) I forgot that on a working computer you should be able to select a program and have the program appear within 5-8 seconds (or less) of you pressing the button. Ha. Not so with the old. I would take work to do while I waited for stuff to load.
2) The constant high-pitched sound of the hard drive constantly running? That is not a natural way for the computer to let you know it's running.

3) SEE ABOVE PICTURE. Do you recognize it? My old computer had a FLOPPY DISK DRIVE! Does that date me? Or does that date the computer?

4) There is a slot in my new computer - ENTIRELY for memory cards of various sorts! No more cords! Yeah! No more waiting for 2 hours while my slow USB port downloaded 2 GBS of photos. PLUS - I can do things like this : assault people with random photos of techonology on my blog.

5) I also now have a microphone and a webcam right IN the computer. This bodes well for anyone who wished to call me (skype - people - its the new way forward) - which makes me VERY excited to talk with people from home!

6) Exciting - when I turn on my computer - I don't have to schedule a shower in between - while my computer loads! This is exciting...

I do not to finish this all by saying... that I took almost two hours to write this blog - because the internet keeps coming in and out - so even with all the best technology in the world we are still subject to the whims of others and weather....

You can Skype me! I have a webcam too, so we'd be SO with the times :D You can probably find me by just searching for my name, but if there's another me in Hamilton, part of MY nickname is "Fabes". Now you know. Congrats on your new technology--I hope it serves you long and faithfully!
