I learned something interesting about Honduras and about how some Hondurans perceive themselves last week. A Honduran commented that Honduras is now illiterate in three ways:
- 30% of Honduras is illiterate in Spanish
- much of Honduras is illiterate in English
- and now Honduras is quickly becoming illiterate in computers now as well.
I thought this was an interesting observation. I think one of the core changes that will have to happen is that ways of learning and thought processing (which is non-existant) has to be developed. They learn through memorization - and it is a hard battle to get my students to think for themselves. They need to learn HOW to think about information and not just learn information. Thoughts?

Hey Amanda! I totally understand your challenge - I'm having it in my placement right now as well. My associate teacher said the best way to get students away from memorization is to do an introductory activity that gets students thinking about an idea or topic without them actually realizing this is something they need to memorize! Especially using hands on activities, not just copying down notes off the board or listening to the teacher drone on is so important. I'm finding this to really work! Hope things work out well for you...all the best!
God bless you Amanda!!
Hey Amanda!! Loved your note on my blog... fellow alto indeed... i miss you in choir :(
Anyway, i was in El Triunfo in El salvador with my church... we didn't go with any organization because it's the home town of two ppl from our church so we just went to their town and they set it all up for us... it was great!
